Energy Markets

Applications

The North American transportation market utilizes over 60 billion gallons of diesel fuel annually.  It is of critical importance to the U.S., Canadian and Mexican economies in powering much of our mass transportation and heavy industry infrastructure. In fact, our entire “goods movement” industry runs on diesel so in a sense, we all use diesel fuel.

In addition, the market for diesel fuel and diesel engines is growing. Diesel fuel has more energy content than gasoline and diesel engines are more efficient and require less maintenance. Thanks to developments in newer engines and low-sulfur fuel formulations, diesel has become an attractive alternative for passenger cars particularly in Europe and Asia. In Europe over 60% of the vehicles are now powered by diesel engines. Several manufacturers are introducing new diesel models to the U.S. market.

Because diesel fuel is made from the same petroleum source as gasoline and heating oil, its supply is becoming increasingly limited. In addition, renewable, sustainable fuel options to serve this market are scarce. As a result, we expect the demand for alternative diesel fuel to grow for many years to come.
